Ceramides are lipids already present in the skin's outer barrier, and Ceramide NP is one of the most abundant of them. Every acid or retinoid in a routine works by mildly disrupting that barrier — ceramides are what rebuild it, which is why they're the standard partner ingredient for any active routine rather than a stand-alone treatment.
